When I got my appointments through for my initial chat at the gym I was both nervous and excited. Exercise has never been something that I have enjoyed. I have had a problem with my balance all my life and so PE at school and any exercise I have participated in since has never come easy.
My first appointment at the gym was just a general chat and to make the future appointments. It was explained that I would get my first 5 weeks free including any classes I wanted to take. After that it is £1.50 per session for the next two months and any classes are then full price. I was also asked if I would be interested in going to see a Health Advisor for help with losing weight.
My next appointment was a fitness test. I was weighed and measured and had my lung capacity tested. I had to go on the exercise bike & treadmill. I was asked to stand on one leg which I could not do because of my balance problem.
The next day I had to return for my gym induction and to be shown my program at the same time. My program consists of a 10-15 minute warm up on the treadmill followed by five minutes on the ergometer. I then have to use various weight machines. Then there is some floor exercises which are good for my back. Then it is time to cool down with the exercise bike.
I have been going to the gym for 3-4 weeks now and I can't say that I am enjoying it. I quite like the treadmill and exercise bike but I hate the rest of it. I am pondering what to do at the end of my free five weeks but that is for another blog post....
